WHAT
INSPIRES
THEM.

I am a Kichwa Cotacachi woman. I grew up in a large and diverse family, with strong values, cultural practices, and traditions. From an early age, I have had a passion for cultural and artistic expressions, especially Andean and contemporary dance, as well as an interest and commitment to the social processes of historically vulnerable groups. The experiences of my parents in the indigenous rights movement have helped me to recognize both the needs and resources of our people. All this has contributed significantly to the construction of my identity and inspires my steps wherever I am.
I am excited to be a part of the Wichana team because it is an organization that has a respectful and committed approach to assisting rural indigenous communities of Ecuador, and recognizes the values, diversity, and changes these communities live through over time. This local support, the inter-institutional work, and direct coordination with women and men of different generations make Wichana dynamic, and able to grow and support high-impact initiatives. Wichana and our partners’ projects effectively promote community and human development, and indigenous rights.

OUR
INITIATIVES.

The Wichana Foundation has two channels for our work.  The first is our support of our Partner organizations.  Our support can include fundraising and administration of donations, technical advice, training and support, and project collaboration.  The second channel is our direct initiatives that we directly organize and administer.
