Highlights.
Kinray Hub, formerly known as K’allam’p, is an indigenous-led nonprofit research organization. Kinray Hub strives to create an ecosystem in which culture, climate, science, and technology serve as dynamic and interconnected mechanisms to build a more sustainable and just society.
Kinray Hub is dedicated to regenerative agriculture, social ecology, biocultural knowledge, and comprehensive resource management. As a reciprocal bridge-building organization, Kinray Hub conducts rigorous scientific research on Indigenous Kultural-Agricultural Systems Heritage (I-KASH) practices in-situ academic research that centers, uplifts and analyzes the eroding traditional agricultural practices of Andean Ecuador to address climate change from the ground up. We conduct our research in partnership with the indigenous farmers whose land we study and develop agricultural research that honors nature as the planet’s most significant shareholder.
Working with community members of the Chichupamba clan in the Andes of Ecuador - Kinray Hub’s latest project focuses on optimizing the growth of native, resilient crops through sustainable agriculture practices, and testing agroforestry practices for soil erosion mitigation, thereby contributing to food security and biodiversity.
In 2022, Kinray Hub/K’allam’p launched a project called “Helping Babies Breathe in the Andes” to save the lives of indigenous and other newborns. About a dozen indigenous midwives received training designed to help them get newborns breathing within the “Golden Minute” — the first minute of life that is so crucial to their survival. The program expanded in October of 2023, providing equipment and training to more than 50 physicians, midwives, and nurses at two public, under-resourced hospitals. Further training will take place in 2024.
Kinray Hub also collaborates with medical brigades consisting of doctors, nurses, dentists and other volunteers who venture into remote indigenous communities to provide health and dental care to people who otherwise would likely go without it.
