Wichana Foundation July 2024 Newsletter
The first half of 2024 has been transformative for the Wichana Foundation, marked by the addition of Education for Ecuador to its family of partners. This collaboration has brought impactful projects to life, including vocational carpentry training for indigenous youth in San Pedro, specialized classes for sight-impaired children, and the establishment of a community library in Punje with plans for a mobile library to serve remote areas. These efforts are empowering local communities by fostering education and vocational skills, with future expansions dependent on securing funding support.
In healthcare, Wichana has enhanced its Rural Medical Brigade by acquiring skin cancer detection equipment to address the high incidence of skin damage in Ecuador’s Amazon and Sierra regions. This capability has already identified patients in need of urgent care. In addition, Wichana’s new headquarters in Cotacachi serves as a vibrant hub for showcasing indigenous Kichwa artistry while supporting young leaders and interns in their personal and professional growth. As the foundation approaches its fifth anniversary, it continues to strengthen the health, education, and culture of indigenous communities in Ecuador, with a strong focus on empowering women leaders. Supporters are encouraged to contribute via PayPal or mail to sustain these life-changing initiatives.
