Wichana Foundation February 2025 Newsletter

The Wichana Foundation’s February 2025 Newsletter underscores a deep commitment to cultural preservation, health education, and community engagement in Ecuador’s indigenous regions. Highlights include the collaborative effort with the Kichwa Cultural Center Muyumi Kanki and community elders in Morales Chupa to document ancestral traditions and integrate the historic Wayta Sisa Raymi celebration into the community calendar. In partnership with Rutgers University, mapping projects are underway in Morales Chupa and La Calera to protect land rights and support Kichwa cultural identity. Meanwhile, K’allam’p/Kinray Hub successfully expanded maternal and newborn care training, equipping local healthcare providers, indigenous midwives, and nurses with essential skills in postpartum hemorrhage management and newborn care.
Beyond these initiatives, the La Querencia Community Library is bolstering literacy and cultural connection for the Kichwa community of Punje, while plans for Wichana’s sixth medical brigade to the Amazonian Siona communities are advancing. A newly formed volunteer team of indigenous and rural youth will also receive training and mentorship to further strengthen leadership across cultural, educational, and healthcare programs. Through these multifaceted projects, the Wichana Foundation continues to uplift local voices, cultivate indigenous-led solutions, and foster sustainable growth in Ecuador’s underserved communities.
