The Wichana Foundation’s Summer 2025 Newsletter offers a vivid glimpse into its ongoing efforts to empower Indigenous Kichwa communities in Ecuador through cultural preservation, youth leadership, and holistic well-being. One of the season’s highlights was the Inti Raymi celebrations in Cotacachi and Otavalo, where Wichana collaborated with local communities and the Kichwa Cultural Center to support ancestral rituals honoring the sun and Pachamama. These celebrations not only rekindled traditional practices but also fostered intergenerational unity and pride in cultural identity.

Youth leadership also took center stage in San Antonio de Punge, where Wichana volunteers hosted a storytelling camp centered on local legends, creative writing, and artistic expression. Meanwhile, in the remote village of Piñán, the foundation delivered essential medical, dental, and traditional healing services to families without access to healthcare. In Punyaro Alto, Wichana is funding a six-month Kichwa language revitalization initiative aimed at restoring daily usage of the native language among children. Each initiative reflects Wichana’s mission to blend tradition with community empowerment—uplifting voices, restoring heritage, and cultivating resilience.
